Tony and I just celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary, which not-so-coincidentally falls on the same anniversary of the day we met 11 years ago. We ran around Pittsburgh like teenagers just giggling and having the most fun. Tony called the day “chasing nostalgia.” We met at a concert at Heinz field so we got in and snuck a peek at the seats he first approached me at. It was like going back in time and it got me realizing that we have loved so many versions of each other. The fresh out of college kids, the unemployed, looking-for-jobs together young professionals, the newly employed/brand new city kids, then finally have a little money in our pockets to go to a nice dinner kids. We lived in that era for a while and then became the late 20s versions of ourselves who probably weren’t ready for a baby, but hey, the Lord always has other plans. We walked beside one another when my name changed to Mommy and his to Daddy, we navigated the fog of the early days when sleep is harder to find than a sale on The Row and time to yourself is few and far between. Honestly, we are still there. Our youngest is 3 but it’s getting easier; and now we wake up looking at each other as adults in our 30’s. He’s the sole provider for our family, I’m the caretaker at home and he’s saying “lets chase some dreams now.” So I wanted to say to you all again, thank you for being here and for walking with us - the appreciation I have for you all for showing up for me can’t ever be put into words.
NOW for what we’re seeing on the streets…
Broderie, Lace and Shift Dresses
The key here is that the dress is pretty short and it’s shapeless. It’s not if you spent $500 on your little summer dress, but how the shape sits on your frame and how you style it. I personally love the $20 shift dress from Target because its the exact same shape as the white Doen broderie one and gives the effect we are trying to get. There’s also a great Free People shift dress that’s $60 and although it didn’t make the collage, I thought it was worth mentioning to you. Any of these options are easy, breezy and look best paired with lace up sandals or jellies. Grab a straw bag and you might as well be in the south of France.
Mini Straight Skirts, Bubble Shorts and Skirts
Itty bitty skirts. Bubble silhouettes. The Free People mushroom skirt is amazing because it reminds me of the lining from Leandra Medine Cohen’s collaboration with Soeur and the fit is similar. There’s not a lot to it, which is why it’s a fraction of the price compared to designer house’s skirts of the same cut. The Leset option is so much more because the fabric is better, the cut is more tailored and it will probably hold up longer. I would go with this option if you plan to use this in your wardrobe year after year. The bubble shorts or bloomers have been around for a while. I started wearing the Innika Choo ones on my honeymoon and now they are really going mainstream. You could try the gingham ones but a lot of sizes sold out. We are also seeing fashion girls in the skirt silhouette and it’s giving the same aesthetic as the bloomers. To get the look, you need to pair the bloomers or the bubble skirt with something very unexpected or it’s going to look too predictable. It’s too hot for leather (hello Ohio heat advisory) but think along those grunge lines. The Row dropped their collection for Spring 2025 and it’s a lot of plaid, so as a ringleader, other labels are going to follow and I don’t think it’s too early for us to hop on that train. I think it would be cool to do a long tattered plaid button up with a bra underneath. Make it feel feminine and punk at the same time. I plan to do this and will show you how it turns out when I wear it.
Minimal Toe-Ring Gladiator Sandals
Gladiators are coming back, all the cool girls are already separating that tie on their sandals and letting it crawl up the leg like we did in college. The Ciao Lucia ones have been in my dreams for a long time but they are over $300 so I hunted down these toe ring lace up sandals which are a fraction of the price.
Looking ahead
Beautiful draping, more open backs, nostalgic patterns like Ric Rac and plaid.
Thanks for being here! Love you, xoxo Megan
