Wistful gourds and pumpkin vines
Halloween seasons born of Disney channel specials and parade costume competitions
Maybe Halloweentown or Hocus Pocus are to blame, Practical Magic and You’ve Got Mail; or the sweet sound of crunching leaves under our adult feet, but there’s something about this season for 30-something moms. We are especially nostalgic - probably because most of us grew up waiting on an owl to drop a letter from Hogwarts, secretly trying spells just in case we have a bit of magic in us.

I’m not the only mom at the patch who has her kids in coordinating, special outfits. I think photos at this time of year really show the passing of time. My children have a different face every year, standing in front of the tractors at our favorite pumpkin market. This year, my son has the same toothless grin as the jack o’ lantern we will likely carve the day before Halloween. His face freckled with memories of a summer too quickly gone. Philomena heads for the strangest gourds and pumpkins she can find, still in dismay that they haven’t figured out a way to grow pink pumpkins. The “hot chocolate” strand will have to do.
I want to do this season justice because I feel like it deserves it. With so much uncertainty in the world, one thing is always certain… the Autumn magic will surround us with crisp air and pumpkin spice (if we let it). We will always have the changing leaves and fields kissed with the warmth of a harvest sun. It’s like my favorite character of all time (Anne Shirley Cuthbert) said, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” And although it’s still September, we are planning ahead as one does. My baby, Philly-girl, has her birthday on the second day of October. It’s fitting because she is truly the perfect amount of spice and warmth rolled into one magical tiny body.
Of course on the flip side of the warm colors and sunshine, we have the crisp breezes creeping in on dewy morning blades of grass. We have silvery moonshine on our loved ones faces as we roast marshmallows a little past our kids’ bedtimes. It’s truly just the most beautiful time of year during the day and in the evening air. I hope you spend the season doing whatever makes you feel cozy and warm and loved, drinking lots of pumpkin spice chai’s or lattes with your favorite people.

Recent follower and immediately obsessed with your style! I ADORE the Bode sweater that you paired with a skirt AND you are wearing THE Cordera purse that I've been eyeing. *Chefs kiss* all around.
