I think it’s pretty odd (and probably speaks to who I am as a person) that I’m feeling anxiety about how I’m going to dress this Fall. I’ve had discussions with Tony about it because I feel like summer is my time. It’s so easy for me to get dressed and feel like I can inspire others. But when it cools down, I just want to wear sweats and stay in my house.
Right now, I want to get dressed and leave the house even when it’s hard to take our kids, but when it cools down, plop me in front of the fireplace, I’m not leaving.
Add in the fact that I’m writing this article in mid-July (and you basically know what it’s like to be inside my brain at all times) what sane individual is practicing layering when temps are at record highs?
I’m cataloguing in my brain, building outfits and staring at my closet wondering what I can do. So I practiced this week. I feel like it’s a good exercise because I did it with clothes from my favorite season and I’m hoping it helps me with the colder months because right now, I got nothin’.
In the photo above, I got this great top that I wanted to wear as a dress. It’s mesh and VERY fitted so I layered bike shorts underneath and a halter bra over my regular coverings. I think the best thing that I took from this exercise is that a top can be a dress with the right underthings and when it cools down, a dress can be a top. I plan to use this formula with a dress and jeans when it get’s chillier. Probably NOT in pink, because I usually save that for sunshine.
Stefano took the photo of me on top in the popcorn shop, I layered shorts under a beach skirt and a long top. I was way too hot in this outfit and we did a lot of walking but it was a good practice for how I can wear this in the Fall. I like this t-shirt because I feel like its an elevated basic and a twist on a classic white t-shirt. I think this would be cool with a sweater vest over it and a fuller skirt that doesn’t let the wind touch my legs when temperatures drop.
Last but not least, I listed a few of my favorite finds from this week for you here if you feel so inclined to browse. As always, you can find links to my closet and things I love in my ShopMy closet.
This dress looks like a Cecilie Bahnsen dress that costs $1780 but its Free People for under $100.
I have to have this for pumpkin patching and also to wear dressed up with fancy earrings for dinner.
The sunglasses that I cannot get out of my brain. I feel like summer is almost over so I don’t want to pull the trigger but if you have sensitive eyes all year long now might be the time to snag these.
This would be cool with printed denim and a white tee.
I want Tony to wear this for our trip to the Smokies, I’ll report back with his answer.
For those of you who live in a summer state of mind all year long.
If a harvest sunset were an article of clothing. I’m thinking of scooping this up to wear this Fall.
Love you all - have a wonderful week! Xoxo, Megan
