15 Pieces That Will Help You Dress Like an Autumn Leaf
BONUS: you can look like a fashion girl while doing it
This post has nothing to do with NYFW, though I wish it did. It’s more for the everyday woman who needs a little help picking a few things for fall. My friend reminded me that the “-ber” months really are the best time of year for regular moms. We are out and about doing a lot and we want to look good! The best part of this list is that you could pick just one thing and it would be enough to get you to Christmas. Enjoy a trip inside my brain where clothes and accessories are always being catalogued.
A pop of red. Yes, we’re still doing that. I ordered this one as soon as it dropped because this shade of red is just so elite and expensive-looking. I will style it and take some photos but I was thinking under a chocolate brown sweater with mustard pants. I also want to let it peek out under my black suede jacket.
Short Fall Dress. Wear this with riding boots to the pumpkin patch in September when you’re legs are still sun-kissed enough that you aren’t scarier than the scarecrow. I will probably put a black suede jacket over mine.
Corduroy Pants. You already know how I feel about cords. So versatile this time of year and if you hang onto them for 20 years, they will circle back in style. I know this because *history*.
Suede Jacket. I keep gabbing about it so I might as well give you options.
Fringe. I would be remiss not to include a fringe suede in this roundup. Everyone is talking about barn jackets but I think fringe and suede will be just as trendy.
b. Modern/Minimalist. Grab the matching skirt while you’re at it. It’s SO GOOD.
Aforementioned Barn Jacket. The main event this season. I will be using my carhartt but there are so many I would love to purchase. I love the Doen one so much, I’m sure you’ve seen it everywhere!
Quilted, velvet with a classic collar that will hit mid-thigh.
b. Shorter, cotton jacket with contrasting collar. I love the buttery yellow aura it gives.
Obscure pin. For use on your jacket or bag.
Stirrup Pants. Particularly with loafers but would also be great with ballet flats. I’ve seen them dressed up with blazers and down with a long v-neck cashmere sweater and it all looks so good. If you would have told 4-year old Megan these would be back, I would have called you a liar.
Wool Polo. Wear with a very short satin skirt in oxblood or slime green and riding boots. Here is a emerald green variant and here is the Renggli one that everyone is dying to get their hands on.
Earrings to dress up a sweater. We all have a black turtleneck; these are the perfect gilded item for your ears and festive enough to take you into the holiday season.
Big Suede Bag. I’m grabbing the brown but it also comes in black. It’s oversized enough to give The Row effect at a price point that’s attainable for regular moms.
Ballet flats. I own these and love them. Super comfy and fun; wear with or without socks. I love the red to add some interest to your outfit and to tie it in with the Leset lipstick top peeking out of your sweater.
Studded Western Belt. Thank God above for gifting us with this Khaite dupe at Madewell for a literal fraction of the price.
Denim jacket. I’m wearing mine fitted and buttoned the whole way up with fancy earrings to offset the trucker vibe.
Riding boots. Wear with literally everything and it will look like you know what you’re talking about, trust me.
Off-season texture mini skirt. This color is very “of the moment” but the silk fabric is what will keep your look interesting this season. I love the idea of putting this with a wool sweater and riding boots.
Thank you all for browsing Fall garments with me! As always, you can see updated picks in my storefront here. Love you all, Megan
